The term Prashanti has its root in Oriya word shanti (which means peace in English). Therefore, shanti with its prefix ‘pra’ is understood as the absolute peace. Prashanti, as a cultural and human rights platform, is a brainchild of several secular-minded individuals who commit themselves and aspire for justice and peace in Kandhamal district, Orissa, eastern India, and in the society, at large. It is in the context of Kandhamal district in the state devastated by anti-Christian violence caused by radical Hindu nationalists that took place in December 2007 and in August 2008. This webpage is a credible and reliable source of information about Kandhamal district and Orissa.
